experienced ecovillage design
Our project team is steadily turning our dreams into reality.
the project team
Jagera EcoCommunity is designed by an experienced planning team, led by Peter Cuming, managing director of Sustainable Futures Australia. Peter has been involved in the Permaculture movement and sustainability in Australia since its early days in the 1980’s, including teaching eco-settlement planning and design. Well known Permaculture figures, Robyn Francis, Geoff Lawton & Robin Clayfield attest to his outstanding landscape, eco-settlement design, and collaborative facilitation skills. He has taught and mentored influential designers and eco-developers such as Mike Hulme (Witchcliffe Eco-village, WA).
steady progress
The project team have worked tirelessly to jump through the many bureaucratic hoops placed before eco-developments. More rigorous studies, reports, planning, negotiations and active community support are needed when you try to create something “outside the box”! Our development was finally approved by Clarence Valley Council on 26 June 2018 with the backing of staff and the more progressive Councillors. Detailed engineering plans and costings are being prepared right now, ready for beginning construction of community infrastructure later in 2019. We are currently seeking conscious community investors to help fund construction, as well as new community members to join us onsite from 2020.
growing value
Our community members are most interested in increasing natural and social capital. Although we don’t have a crystal ball to know if your monetary investment will grow in value, we do know that privately owned lots in new ecocommunities are rare; the Clarence Coast is currently undervalued compared to surrounding areas of the NSW North Coast; house and land prices are increasing in Maclean and Yamba; and billions of dollars of government investment is being spent in the region. We believe that eco-based development offers real value for money and is the way of the future in terms of real estate.
